At the foot of South Vitosha, half an hour away from Sofia, you will find the village of Kladnitsa. It is a favorite place for tourist hikes, several hiking routes start from it, including one to Cherni Vrah. Its proximity to the capital provides a nice alternative for nature getaways.

On the way to Selimitsa hut is located Villa Magus Hotel, where we can also enjoy spa experiences. The hotel has spacious rooms, an indoor heated pool, and a steam bath. When we visited it at the end of the summer, it was great to lie on the sun loungers outside. For true spa fans, there is also a traditional Russian bath, which is available at an additional cost.

Sapareva Banya

Not many towns can say they have their own geyser. Sapareva Banya welcomes its guests with its steaming geyser in the center of the city. The town attracts us with its closeness to Sofia, its friendly locals, and its huge amount of pools and thermal delights for resting and getting prettier. It should be named SPApareva Banya.

Stay: Our favorite place to stay in Sapareva Banya is Guest House Relaxa – it’s a small family business with a jacuzzi and sauna and too delicious homemade meals. We’ve also stayed at the 4-star 103 Degrees Hotel & Spa – you can read how to enjoy it to the fullest in our review of the hotel.

Only an hour away from the capital Sofia, Blagoevgrad has more than its bustling student atmosphere to offer. If you want a nice spa weekend, the city’s got you covered. Even locals go to spa hotels to benefit from the healing powers of mineral water.

Stay: Spa Hotel Ezeretz Blagoevgrad with its outdoor and indoor mineral water pools and jacuzzis.

Dolna Banya

The Romans themselves appreciated the region around Dolna Banya for its natural springs. That’s why we have also traveled to the open-air pools with different temperatures a few times. There you can give yourself some shock therapy without leaving the water. Spa in Bulgaria for the lazy, as well for the adrenaline seekers (those who enjoy lying in the snow 15 minutes after visiting a 40-degrees pool).

Stay: in one of the charming guesthouses of Dolna Banya. We’ve partied many times in the open-air pools of Dolna Banya Hotel.

The village of Pchelin and Pchelin’s Baths have some of the hottest mineral springs – 73 degrees Celsius. The village is really small and does not offer a lot of options for accommodation, but it compensates with peacefulness and the possibility to sleep. It is also near Sofia.

Stay: We stayed at the cheeky hotel Vitalis.

The water in the town of Varshets is tasty and has lots of useful elements in it. People go there not only to relax and heal but also to enjoy the nice climate of the resort. It is even possible for a resort to have a bad climate?  😄

Stay: Here are some places to stay in Varshets. We enjoyed our stay in Spa Hotel Medicus.

The area around Kostenets is full of mineral springs. Apart from the spa, you can also try fishing and long walks in nature there. The close proximity to the capital doesn’t seem to be a problem since it is still really peaceful there.

Stay: Not a huge choice, but still some options to stay in the area.

The village of Govedartsi may not have mineral springs, but there you can relax by the pool, cool down nearby the river, and breath some fresh air. These are all things that are good for your health and your mood.

Stay: Don’t think too much and visit this lovely village and the surroundings.

Panagyurishte is a significant place in Bulgarian history. Officially there might not be a hot mineral spring, but you will definitely find a place to go to a spa and relax. Also, you will be able to learn a lot about Bulgarian revolutionaries and the uprisings against the Ottoman Empire.

Stay: We stayed at Kamengrad Hotel & SPA.

Sometimes the road itself is so beautiful that you forget about the destination

Kyustendil is a well-known town among cherry lovers. It also has some great spa potential. The Roman Thermal Baths and the Turkish Baths there mean that the potential of this city was noticed ages ago. It is time for us to enjoy it, too!

Stay: All the options to stay in or near the town.

Do you know those guys in the steam?

Really close to Sofia is Borovets – a resort very well-known to ski and snowboard fans. The resort is one of the first resorts in Bulgaria, probably in the Balkans, maybe even in Europe. As we know, spas and relaxation exist for as long as humankind does, so the oldest place for rest must have the necessary equipment for them.

Stay: a wide variety of places to stay according to your budget and preferences. Gets crazy in winter.

Belchinski Bani

The village of Belchinski Bani is a famous balneological center due to its warm thermal waters. No matter whether you are visiting it for healing, rest or pleasure, the pure air there is a great combination with the healing waters and the friendly locals.

Stay: The best swimming pool is part of the Spa Hotel Belchin Garden. We stayed at the hotel in autumn and we loved the spa center and the mineral waters.
