“The race will begin any time now. Get ready. Read your first clues and good luck!”
Those were the words that marked the beginning of one incredibly fun treasure hunt in Rila Park, near Dupnitsa.

This park is brand new. It is a great place to have a long walk, dinner or whatever else you might like.
It is located at just 10 minutes by car away from Dupnitsa. We decided to walk the way and it took us around half an hour. We do not regret this at all! This short trip was filled with amazing autumn sights. Even more, our friends that took a car there got lost and arrived even after us. The conclusion is: Trust your own feet!

Although we have visited the park before, we had never noticed how big and interesting it actually is.
We discovered how big it is the hard way – after a few minutes of running in it looking for clues. Especially uphill! Mind you we were actually divided in two teams and each team was only assigned to only a half of the park. Imagine if we had to run the whole distance of the park… We would need a golf cart or, more realistically, a rickshaw!
There are all kinds of sights inside the park. There are churches, restaurants and BBQs, playgrounds for the kids, and much more. Our treasure hunt was in October and so most of these places were closed since it is out of its active season. Considering this, we were actually in luck! We know from experience that running through this park in the summer when there are people everywhere, is pretty hard. There are obstacles and feet everywhere…
To sum up – do the more dynamic activities in the park in the autumn or spring. Then there is enough space for you to do whatever you like and still plenty to see. Summer is for the lazier activities – the park is perfect for a long summer night around the BBQ.

If you want to join a treasure hunt, just like we did, contact Rila hotel. The staff there promised they will start organizing those really soon. They helped in organizing ours, too. After that, they took us in for a relaxing evening at their new spa.

Obviously we have not yet sweated enough, so we needed some more of that. After a day of running around in the park, we hit the saunas… It feels different though when you are sweating somewhere, where that’s what you are supposed to do. You feel somehow more civilized. And you can take a shower at any point.
This trip was possible thanks to the hospitality of hotel Rila in Dupnitsa. This is a place with friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and a modern spa center.
We managed to travel to, from and around Dupnitsa thanks to our friends from VAL & KAR Rent A Car Bulgaria.

This place seems so charming and definitely worth visiting. Thanks for the motivating post! How many days would you recommend staying there?

The Rila park could be explored for a day but you might want to combine it with a hike in Rila mountain and a visit to the Rila monastery – you’ll enjoy it so much!
