Which country should be the lucky number 60 in our list of visited destinations?

One of the hardest questions while traveling sometimes is “Where should I go next?”.

We are struggling to decide not only where we should go next, but also which country should be number 60 in our list.

Prelude

Less than an year ago we celebrated country number 50 in our list of destinations, which was Sweden on our way back fromΒ a delightfulΒ Baltic road trip.

Country number 51 came as a sudden decision to visit the neighbor of MalmΓΆ – the magnificent Copenhagen.

Then the list continued growing with anΒ unexpected tripΒ to Senegal and a road trip through some Balkan and Central European countries.

After busting some movie myths about Bratislava and Slovakia, we nailed it at number 59.

The question

So the most logical question is: What country should become number 60 in our list? Which country to visit next and what are the special charms about it?

Where to for country number 60? The magic of traveling
Some sticker-pen art in my notebook on a rainy day of Camino de Santiago 2017. Where to?

Our list fromΒ 50 to 59

  1. Sweden – we managed to visit just one city, but we usually getΒ soaked in the local culture quickly.
  2. Denmark – we walked the whole center of Copenhagen. We caught the best sunny spring day possible. Bistra returned for an exchange project later in the summer. Denmark is quite expensive but very beautiful.
  3. Senegal – we were invited for a seminar in Dakar. We amended a fun road trip around the country to explore the pearl of West Africa.
  4. Ireland welcomed us with lush green, moody castles and dramatic views along its streets and highways.
  5. PalestineΒ – technically we visited Bethlehem years ago, when we visited Israel. We did some lookup, and although Palestine isΒ a sovereign state and it’s only recognized by 136 UN members, we decided to give it a number in our list (as a non-member observer state in the United Nations).
  6. When we ask you, our readers, where to go next, there’s always one name in the polls. It’s Iceland. We considered visiting it few times before, but this time it happened, really. Its beauty still mesmerizes us. We also were lucky to make one of our biggest dream come true – we witnessed the Northern Lights.
  7. Bosnia and Herzegovina – our Skoda road trip took us to a very close to Bulgaria country, which we had never visited before. Sarajevo, Titov Bunker, Mostar were part of the pleasant surprises there.
  8. Croatia – Adriatic sea gives these curvy roads and unexpected beauties along it. The inside of the country – Plitvice Lakes NP and Zagreb – hold their ground too!
  9. Slovenia is not a huge country. But it definitely evokes huge feelings with its friendly locals, scrumptiousΒ cuisine, and mountain treats.
  10. Our road trip took us in Slovakia, where we entered a UFO dish and proved we can survive a 9-day road trip through 8 countries, making memories we haven’t had the time to describe so far…

Somewhere in between number 50 and 59 we also visited countries we had visited before – like our favorite weekend-beach destination Greece, Italy, France, Cyprus, UK, Spain.

We published our first book in Bulgaria – “The magic of traveling: Follow the locals”. Let’s see if we manage to publish it in English before we get to country number 60!

Have you been to the Czech Republic? It’s a beautiful country!!

    • Indeed it is a beautiful one Halley! You can check our Skoda road trip experience. But we should go again and spend some more time outside Prague.

  5. I wote for South Africa. It’s amazing country, so diverse and relatively cheap πŸ˜‰

    • Thank you Katarina! It goes into the bucket list πŸ™‚

  6. I’d definitely suggest Amsterdam! So many wonderful places to eat, and wandering the canals is so much fun!

    • We’ve been to Holland and Amsterdam before – but we still can’t find the time to write about our adventures in the capital. You’re right – Amsterdam has a charming atmosphere!

  7. Well since I am just back from Belize I would recommend there. Such a beautiful country, jungles, turquoise oceans and second largest coral reef. Loads of wildlife and adventures for everyone. Plus it’s quite a small country so you can visit a lot in your time πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Becky! That’s a lovely suggestion – Belize has so much to offer in such a small land…we will follow your recommendations when we decide to go there!

60 countries is impressive! You haven’t visited the US?! I would say the US. Specifically, seeing the Giant Sequoa (redwood) trees in California, at Yosemite National Park. Denver, CO for the Rocky mountains. Hawaii (Honolulu, Oahu, or Kona, Hawaii if you’re feeling volcano/beach life) Orlando, Florida (For Disney World, if you’re into that sort of thing) If you two love big cities, my vote would be Los Angeles, California; SO diverse and SO much to offer you (though traffic to and from is dreadful) The US is pretty big, so I hope these are a few good solid ideas!

    • Thank you, Miranda!
That’s a pretty comprehensive guide to the US! There’s plenty to do and see there. We’re going to need a month at least! We’ll get back to you to help us plan our trip when we decide to go to USA!
