You don’t have to ask a kiwi what a typical thing to do in New Zealand is. You can see for yourself that every green field, every little beach and generally every spot in the open air (and they have a lot of open-air) is a perfect picnic spot.
Picnics are more than just eating on a blanket while contemplating nature. Picnics are also perfect opportunities for a family get-together, for eating healthy stuff while collecting vitamin D and as in our case – taking a break from driving to have some time for reflecting everything nice that we’veย seen on the road.
We collected memories from our picnics during our one-month stay in New Zealand and here we go! We started collecting picnic spots but it turned out to be a collection of tips and funny rules at the end of the day!
Who says you can’t have a picnic in a nice winery yard with magnificent views over the island of Waiheke? Cheers!

Some interesting places to have picnics. We did 4 weeks on South Island and never had one picnic but we did do and see lots of beautiful things.
