In the length of 4 years we visited Budapest twice. First time just the two of us, the second time with 4 friends – two of them already living there. You can do many things on your own or with friends so we combined some memories from those two types of Budapest travel experiences to create an ultimate collection of things to eat, see and experience in the city where the Danube river separates Buda from Pest.
4 years and 4 more friends later, we compiled the list of 4 major experiences everyone in our humble opinion should have in Budapest:
party and spa
It is a sin not to go to bath at the capital of thermal springs. You don’t have to be a royalty anymore to experience the aromatic hot springs and saunas or the outdoor pools of the hundreds-of-years-old buildings. And as for the party – the city has a thing or two to offer! Take your friends on wine tasting sessions, a bar or to a restaurant with no English menus or teach them how to dance to surprise them or just stay home to celebrate а birthday or two.
Never miss a opportunity to stop by a nice place and party like a local! Traditional Hungarian (and also Romanian) music and dance, grab your friends and meet some new dance buddies:
Our first stay was in District 8 near Kálvin tér metro station, in an old building with inner terraces, the second time we slept in our friends’ apartment which was in the very heart of District 1, old neighborhood with some fresh buildings and mesmerizing views to the river and the Parliament.
Needless to say, Budapest is a great destination for foodies! See why in the pictures! Every dish is as tasty as home-made and very often it is actually home-made 🙂 Yummy!
Join us on a retro electrocar ride through the park of Margaret island. It is sometimes off-road so pay attention!
Cheers – egészségére (pronounce it like egeshegedre)
Good afternoon – jó napot (say yo nappod)
Bye-bye, see you – viszlát or much easier just say see ya
Thank you – köszönöm (good luck pronouncing that!)
Dear friends, enjoy every experience in Budapest, with or without friends. Don’t forget to follow the locals‘ advice and have fun your own way!
And we do have some quite definite plans for next time: all night bathing in a 24/7 bath next to Elizabeth bridge.
Did we miss something funny and interesting to do in Budapest! Tell us!
